Grandpa's 94th Birthday Celebration
Drove to CT on Tuesday. Spent two days working around the house. Flew to Florida on Thursday. Boarded the Majesty of the Seas with Mom, Grandpa and Kitty for a cruise to the Bahamas. Fun time with the family and two really good days snorkeling. After the cruise, spent a few days with Grandpa working around his house and helping to sell his boat. Then a hell flight back to Connecticut and a drive back to Ithaca.

When people want to know why I tore apart my brand new laptop the day I received it to install a different hard drive, I point to my Grandpa. His alarm clock doesn't wake him, so he wired it via a relay to a transformer which drives a very loud bell. He tends to lose his car in parking lots, so he rigged this light to the interior trunk light. I was there pretty much the entire time the wall was open (which wasn't much during the cruise). The belayers were hideously trained and kept taking their brake hands off the rope. Luckily they were using grigris. They only ever put two ropes on a wall which could have easily supported eight. Climbing all holds (which is what every single participant did) was about 5.1 on both routes. The "easy" route was also 5.1. The "medium" route was maybe 5.4. The "hard" route was 5.8 with a single 5.10a move on the port side and a single 5.10c move on the starboard side. I onsighted the port side and started working on a "no plastic" route on that rope (which I never sent). I struggled with the 10c move on the starboard side because the hold was so greasy. Finally found some chalk in one of their bins which made it possible to hold the greasy pinch, but I didn't get a chance to send the move. Sorry for writing so much about climbing.
