Rock Climbing --- 10/8/2010 - 10/12/2010 --- Gunks

Gunks Class, Fall Break.

Like usual when I teach, I didn't get many pictures. But there was beautiful weather and beautiful fall colors and beautiful climbing.

Saturday I climbed with Ryder and Jeff. We started on Disneyland, then climbed Gelsa and Te Dum. We finished the day at the Uberfall with a toprope on Red Cabbage Right, and my lead of Bunny to set a toprope on Retribution. Alex gave the five minute lecture on no voice communication protocol.

On Sunday, Nolan, Danny and I climbed Birdland. I had them building anchors and bringing each other up, so we were on that climb for a long, long time. Then we did the same thing on Te Dum. At the end of the day I led Laurel and then Rhododendron to set TRs for the large group. Tammy gave the five minute lecture on double ropes.

On Monday I climbed Beginner's Delight with Tara and Dillon. We came down via the Madame G's rappel and did some anchor work and rescue scenarios. The whole class ended up congregating in the Northern Pillar area where we set end of day topropes on Hyjek's Horror, Twin Oaks, and Delusions of Grandeur. In the evening, we went to visit Ryder's Aunt where the whole class enjoyed a BBQ and campfire. Jon gave the five minute lecture on fall factors.

It rained all night, so I took the opportunity to not wake at 6:13am. Woke 10 minutes later... at 6:26am. Eventually the rain stopped and we all ambled out of our tents. We took the entire class to the Uberfall area where we had stations set for anchor building, self rescue, mock leads and toproping. The sun came out and dried up all the rain, so the itsy bitsy students climbed up the rock again. We stopped for a nice dinner at the Roscoe Diner on the way home.

The heel on my Aces gave out on Te Dum. (Category: Rock Climbing)

The heel on my Aces gave out on Te Dum. These are my very first pair of climbing shoes. They are the shoes I've worn on almost every single long climb I've done (and a majority of the short climbs too). They have been resoled at least nine times. I'm just going to patch the heel and keep using them!    Gunks -- 10/9/2010
