Ice Climbing --- 2/19/2010 --- Salmon River Falls
Guy and I spent the day ice climbing. Started tired after yesterday's activities. Ended even more tired.
Started the day rappelling down Don't Cry Over Spilled Milt which is supposed to be WI4, but was in easy conditions and felt like WI2+. We both climbed it on TR and I topped out to move the anchor to Salmon Runs. Another WI4 that felt like an easy WI3. Guy topped this one out and moved the anchor to Mate, Spawn and Die... my favorite ice climb ever, and the one I always climb at Salmon River Falls. It felt like a WI5. It always feels like a WI5. The bottom 80% went pretty easy. The top part -- transitioning to the mixed section and climbing it -- kicked my butt. Guy got the climb cleanly, which was impressive, and then I lowered him into the Gorge and made him carry out both our packs while I broke down the anchor up top. He is young and strong, so it seemed fair to me.

Didn't take many photos. We were climbing or belaying the whole time. Salmon River Falls -- 2/19/2010 |
