Rock Climbing --- 9/9/2006 - 9/10/2006 --- Gunks

Very productive day. First I led Boldville and everyone followed. Then I led The Spring and everyone followed. Both were climbs I had never done. Then Adam led High Exposure while Katie and I followed. My next new climb was Wasp. It has a tough start with just enough protection for the first 20'. After that it is a classic 5.7-5.8 face climb for 140' to the GT ledge. Lots of fun. We finished the day with my lead of the first pitch of Airy Aria. I find this climb difficult to protect because the crack flares so much as it opens back that it doesn't easily take gear. Hexes are probably your best bet, but I sold my set early this year.

The uberpooper was out of toilet paper. All day. Again. This is at least the third time I've found it out of paper since the preserve raised their day pass fee to $15. So the preserve is far and away the most expensive place I've ever been rock climbing and they can't even keep paper in the toilet (which was built by the access fund, not by the preserve). This is annoying and self defeating for the preserve since it means people use the much less satisfying solution of glossy pages from the National Geographic pile. I'm sure this paper is less able to compost and harder to pump out of the toilet. Adam said he would email a complaint to the preserve. In my experience, they never respond to email. Sigh.
