Ice Climbing --- 1/28/2005 - 1/30/2005 --- Adirondacks
COC ice climbing trip to the Adirondacks. We drove up Friday night and camped out in -10F weather. Saturday we climbed at Chapel Pond, setting three topropes on Positive Reinforcement. Weather was about 15F during the day, but it was chilly in the canyon where we were entirely in the shade all day. The ice was hard and brittle, but the climbing was quite fun. Saturday night we had a long dinner at Cliffhangers, then slept in much warmer weather -- around 10F. Sunday we did a bunch of climbs on the South face of Pitchoff Mountain. Weather was much warmer with temperatures around 25F and direct sun on the climbs all day long. Climbing was fantastic with soft, plastic ice and fun routes. Simeon led Sisters Left and Sisters Right, followed by Doug, Emilie and Leslie. We had two topropes on the Practice Flow just right of Sisters. I climbed them a few times, including an ascent sans crampons (lots of pullups) just to see if I could do it. Leslie led a climb another 200' right with Kara and Anima following.

Jeff at the top of the right side of Positive Reinforcement (WI4). This was my first climb of the season and I was psyched to be climbing about as well as I had been at the end of last season. Adirondacks -- 1/28/2005 - 1/30/2005 | |

This is what happens when you wear boots which are too tight for an entire weekend. The big toenail would not recover and separated from the toe by March. Adirondacks -- 1/28/2005 - 1/30/2005 |
