Hiking --- August 2003 --- Portland Point
Collecting fossils at Portland Point with Meredith. The surface rock around most of Ithaca is shale from the Devonian period and doesn't contain many fossils. Portland Point has shale from the Silurian which contains a huge trove of trilobites, brachiopods and crinoids.

Meredith collecting fossils. Not sure exactly when this was taken. We went a few times, at least once by bike. From the clothing, my guess is this was actually later in the year and not during the bike ride. Portland Point -- August 2003? |
